Criminal Justice Board for Wales Development Day

As a national body with a role to steer the work of Criminal Justice in Wales and work to support Local Criminal Justice Boards the Criminal Justice Board for Wales (CJBfW) has a critical and complex role. Do Well were brought in to lead the Boards away day (held at HMP Berwyn) in June 2025 to help the Board define success and priorities and ultimately add value to Criminal Justice in Wales.

With nearly 30 attendees including Police and Crime Commissioners, Welsh Government and Youth Justice representatives Ian Bancroft (Do Well and Traverse Leadership Consulting (TLC) Ltd) worked with Wrexham University to provide insight around the complexity of playing different roles in the same system, the importance of defining vision and priorities, considering how to influence policy making in an uncertain and changing environment.

Through various workshop sessions the Board created a clear vision statement, a process for influencing current and future national policy, and priorities that would enable the Board to add value to the complex system it works within.

By the end of an intense, productive and fun day all participants left feeling a sense of achievement and enjoyment from their development day and most importantly confidence in their future work as a CJBfW.
